Meaning of Organisation
Organization is the management of men, work and materials in an office to achieve goals and objectives of the organization scarce resources. It is also an aspect of planning concerned with the description of the responsibilities of the executives, supervisory and specialist positions.
Types of Organisation
The two types of organization are:
(i) Formal organization: This is a legal institution whose activities are coordinated and interrelated in order to set goals and objectives. Examples of formal organization are schools, banks, hospitals. Etc.
(ii) Informal organization: This is an institution whose activities are developed around social or project group. Examples of informal organization are peer group, clubs and societies. Etc.
The following are some of the advantages of organizational charts:
1. It promotes an effective span of control within the organization chain of command.
2. It reduces organizational conflict.
3. It promotes easy flow of information.
4. It makes coordination of activities possible and easy.
5. It enhances effective administration of the organization.
6. It enhances the achievement of organizational goals and objectives.
Departments in an Organisation
The following are the common departments in many organizations:
(i) Account/ Finance department: This department keeps the financial records and manages the accounting system of the organization. This department sources for capital and controls the financial resources of the organization.
(ii) Administration department: This department coordinates and serves as a link for the other departments in the organization. It is at the centre of the organization because this is where managerial functions are carried out in the organization.
(iii) Personnel department: This department manages people at work .It is in charge of selection and recruitment of staff into the organization. It also punishes or sanction, appreciate or promote staff in the organization.
